Head Shot SW10
$130.00 USD
Disproportionately large heads are the defining characteristic of sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus). These unique heads contain the once highly sought-after substance spermaceti, and are also the key to the intricate, highly evolved sonar system that sperm whales use to socialize, communicate, and secure prey.
This is a friendly adult sperm whale hanging just below the ocean surface, with two other members of her social group just visible in the image, one below, the faint shadow of one swimming away at the top right. Note the whitened area around the whale's mouth, which is typical of sperm whales, and also the teeth of the lower jaw. Sperm whales generally do not have teeth in their upper jaws.
This is a Collector's Edition Print. Each print is numbered and chopped with my logo. Sizes listed are the dimensions of the printed image in inches (see FAQ for equivalent sizes in centimeters). There is an additional white border around the image to allow for framing. A complete list of image and paper sizes can be found in the FAQ.
