Breaching is an art form. Some humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae) do it well; others not so much.
I don't know if there is an accepted standard of good form vs. bad form among the humpbacks themselves, but one thing is certain: I know a good breach when I see it!
One of the key elements for me is a good mid-air twist followed immediately by arching of one's back, with curtains of water rushing back to the sea, as pictured here.
Each whale executes breaches differently, so each twist 'n arch will look different. Some whales achieve tremendous altitude, others seem to defy gravity with incredible hang time.
In other words, watching humpbacks breach never gets old.
Each print is chopped with my logo. Sizes listed are the dimensions of the printed image in inches (see FAQ for equivalent sizes in centimeters). There is an additional white border around the image to allow for framing. A complete list of image and paper sizes can be found in the FAQ.
