Boy (Tries to) Meet Girls BW22
$130.00 USD
There is a fascinating story behind this image, a story of boy-wants-to-meet-girls, but girls-not-so-much.
Pictured in the foreground is a male sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus), females behind.
The male was an adult, old enough apparently to be interested in girls. But—here’s the important part—he wasn’t particularly big, on the order of 17m (56ft) or so (for comparison, I’ve been next to bulls that exceeded 20m in length). It takes male sperm whales many years to mature, so my best guess is that he was sexually mature, but still relatively green behind the ears.
Being young and eager, he approached this social unit (sort of like a family) of adult female whales. Many times. Like, over and over and over, strutting his stuff, but to no avail. The lad got rejected time and again.
Except this one time, when for some reason, the females allowed him to approach.
The male, being male, immediately started to show off though, which sent the females scurrying for cover once more no doubt regretting their collective lapse in judgement.
No matter the result, you have to give the boy props for persistence.
This is a Collector's Edition Print. Each print is numbered and chopped with my logo. Sizes listed are the dimensions of the printed image in inches (see FAQ for equivalent sizes in centimeters). There is an additional white border around the image to allow for framing. A complete list of image and paper sizes can be found in the FAQ.
