As young humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae) grow and mature, they explore, wander off, play and gain confidence with each passing day. At around three months of age, this particular male calf was absolutely brimming with the joy and exuberance of being a healthy, happy humpback whale.
This is the young calf that my friends named Jack during the 2013 calving season. See this image for a family portrait of sorts, Jack together with his doting mother.
